New HSK Course 4 – Chinese for Intermediate Learners
Level 4 is the first level of the intermediate stage. New HSK Course 4 comes in two volumes, 4A and 4B, each with its own workbook. Together they cover about 2,000 words in total and 441 new characters to learn to read.
The grammar now helps you explain things and give your opinion. You learn to say “even if” (即使……也), “no matter what” (不管……都), “otherwise” (否则) and “although” (尽管……但是), and to ask rhetorical questions with 难道……吗. You also learn to talk about numbers in more detail: decimals, fractions, percentages and multiples.
The texts go beyond daily routine: work and money, travel, health, the environment, sports and culture, and how people feel.
Together, 4A and 4B prepare you for the HSK 4 exam.

Does the printed book include the digital version?
Yes. Every printed book includes the digital version. The code in the book does not expire until you activate it. After activation, you can use the digital version for two years.
How do I get to the digital version?
There is a QR code on the back of the book, under a scratch-off layer. Scratch off the layer and scan the code with your phone.
What is in the digital version?
The textbook and the workbook online, with audio and video. You can use them on your phone, tablet or computer. You can also speak your answers, and an AI tutor checks your pronunciation and answers your questions.
Can I buy only the digital version?
Yes. It costs less than the printed book. We send your activation code by email within 24 hours. You have three years to activate it. After activation, you can use the digital version for two years.
